Q: Can you use the Gentle Cleansing Scrub on sensitive skin?
A: Yes, however it’s better to use with a small amount of Micellar Facial Cleansing Gel to make it more gentle. People with sensitive skin should also moderate the level of friction or force they use.
Q: How often should you exfoliate?
A: You should exfoliate once or twice a week, depending on skin type. Coarser skin or congested skin can exfoliate twice per week, whilst normal, sensitive and aged thinner skin types can exfoliate once a week. For sensitive and thinner skins, LYCON Skin Gentle Cleansing Scrub can be used together with LYCON Skin Micellar Facial Cleansing Gel to provide a more gentle exfoliation.
Q: What are AHAs and what do they do to the skin?
A: AHAs, otherwise known as Alpha-Hydroxy Acids, are naturally occurring acids found in various fruits, sugar cane and even sour milk. AHAs help to exfoliate the skin by loosening the bonds that hold together the top layers of dead skin cells. In other words, they speed up skin cell renewal and reveal fresher, softer, smoother and more radiant skin. AHAs also serve to reduce excess skin discolouration and even skin tone. There are some other benefits too – AHAs can refine skin texture, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and lactic acid can even boost skin ceramide production. Furthermore, the exfoliating effect of AHAs can allow other ingredients to penetrate and achieve quicker and better results. One thing to keep in mind though – ‘fresher’ skin is more prone to sunburn and UV damage, so don’t forget to use a moisturiser with SPF, such as LYCON Skin Multi-Protection Day Cream SPF15, when using AHA containing products.
Q: Can LYCON Skin be used on all skin types?
A: Absolutely! There is some sensible fine-tuning or customising that can be done of course. For example, someone with oily/problematic skin may decide to use the Radiance Lime Caviar AHA Mask twice per week, while someone with very sensitive skin might prefer not to use the AHA mask. Similarly, someone with well hydrated skin may choose not to use the Exotic Oil Complex, or might just use it during winter and drying conditions, whereas someone prone to dry skin may use the Exotic Oil Complex on top of their moisturiser every night.
Q: Is LYCON Skin non-comedogenic and what makes it non-comedogenic?
A: When formulating LYCON Skin products, one of the ingredient selection filters we use allows us to make sure we are keeping comedogenicity risk very low. As such, the overall ingredient properties, formulation choices and the interaction of the ingredients are carefully considered and monitored. In addition we also perform in-house panel testing of potential formulas and include panellists with blemish-prone skin. We have found that LYCON Skin formulas have very low comedogenic risk. However, we can’t claim zero risk, of course, as rare individuals can have varied responses that can be ‘outliers’ compared to the general population.
Q: Are parabens/sulphates etc used? Is this clean skincare?
A: LYCON Skin uses neither parabens nor sulphates. ‘Clean’ skincare is ultimately in the eye of the beholder, but we heavily rely on gentle natural and naturally-derived ingredients in formulating our range. We haven’t uncritically bowed down to every last Tik Tok fad though – we have remained rational and balanced in creating the LYCON Skin range which focusses on natural but effective ingredients.
